The sound quality of these headphones are great, a little bit of EQ tuning along with the sonar sound system turned on makes playing games or listening to music really immersive. The battery life also felt like it lasted a fair amount of time before needing to be plugged back in. Though as for the build quality, the thin plastic strips connecting the headband to the earpads seemed kind of flimsy, and after continuous use I noticed a creaking sound when adjusting the left earpad. The clamp force on these headphones was also really strong, noticeably stronger than any other headphones I have worn. The one thing that made me ultimately return these headphones was the ear pain that would come from long wearing sessions. My ears would rub against the plastic drivers and if ignored would result in sharp pain and red ears. This may have been due to how thin the padding was around the cuffs, but I have worn headphones in the past that had the same amount of thickness, so it may have been due to the high clamp force instead. I have tried all of the headband positions but after an hour or two these headphones continued to cause upper ear pressure.I have bought several brands of third party earpads including Wicked Cushions to try and fix the issue, but with how limited the options were I wasn't able to find the right pair for me.
After 2 years:This headset was great, while it lasted at least. I play games a couple times a week so not very often, and I've been using SS headsets for years. Sound quality is great, and my voice quality was too for a while. However with this one, I'm not sure if it was just my specific headset or is a common issue, but after two years into owning it, the mic quality has dropped significantly, my friends can either barely hear me or it's picking up background noise, I usually play with my mic hot so constantly seeing my mic picking up noise and my buddies getting annoyed by it I'm looking to get a different headset. I'm tempted to get the newer version of this headset, but the high price tag is turning me away, even with the sale it's on right now, but at the same time I'm considering going with a different company.
Very comfortable and good sound quality, with useful controls directly on the headset. Some negatives:- The app is terrible, doesn't remember settings and constantly changes default output.- The mic retracts into the headset which is convenient when not using it, however after two years the wire has split despite the fact that it moves in exactly the way it's intended. Because the mic can't be taken off and replaced it'll become unusable soon- Other people can hear themselves coming through the mic even though it's as far away as possible and even with very low volume
The description doesn't mention this but there is a Gen 1 and Gen 2 version. The Gen 1 is the option that's on sale right now. I didn't see in the options that there were two versions. I'm returning the Gen 1 I ordered. Here's the rub, the Gen 1 cannot connect to the companion app on your phone. Why is this important? Without being able to access the app on your phone, you cannot customize the sound presets on the fly. In order to adjust sound presets, you have to unplug the dongle from your console, plug it into your pc, and use the GG app to customize the sound settings. If you're on a console, you have no idea what the sound settings you set on your computer will do to your in-game audio on the console until you're in the game on the console. What happens if you need to make an adjustment because the in-game audio needs to be tweaked? You unplug the dongle from your console and plug it into your pc. Then make your tweaks, take the dongle from the pc and plug it back into your console. You have to hope the audio sounds like something useful for whatever game you're playing. This is unacceptable.Apparently, the companion app has a lot of adjustment settings to help get the kind of audio you want in-game. So, it's super disappointing that the Gen 1 headset can't be adjusted via the app.I won't rate the audio quality since I've only had the headset for four days and haven't used them for any game play. Once I realized the limitation of the headset I requested a return.
Amazing material quality, very easy to connect, and even connects to both my PC (via USB) and my phone (Bluetooth) at the same time. The battery life is pretty good, and it isn't an issue at all as long as you charge it maybe once a week (or more frequently if you use it for longer sessions). Along with all of this, it's also wireless! Definitely a great option. I've been using it for about 4 months now and I've been more than satisfied with it. I don't use the microphone, but just the audio quality makes this worth the price, especially if you catch it on a discount.
